A new journal article has been published with the title: “Investigation of Variable Transformers using Orthogonal Biasing”. It is the result of a collaboration with the company Sumida Components Modules GmbH and a research group at KU Leuven, Belgium.

The use of so-called active biasing in transformers is currently of particular interest in power electronics research, as they are an integral part of numerous circuits and applications to ensure the required galvanic isolation or to enable high voltage ratios. Various approaches for variable transformers are presented and discussed in the article. Verification is carried out using 3D FEM simulation and measurements. The focus is on so-called orthogonal biasing as a pre-magnetization method.
