DAAD RISE Internship 2024 by Priscilla from Chicago

This summer, Priscilla Lagunas from Chicago (US) joined the Distributed Systems group as DAAD RISE funded intern to work on game development. We thank Priscilla for the exiting time with her in our group.

Hi! I'm Priscilla, a college student from the US (Chicago) studying computer science. This summer, I had the opportunity to work with Universität Kassel's Distributed Systems group as a DAAD RISE intern. Under the guidance of Professor Oliver Hohlfeld and Adrian Kunz, I explored various ways of porting video games to WebAssembly to determine the feasibility of playing browser-based games as an alternative to playing games running natively on a PC. Most of my work involved porting Speed Dreams, an open source racing game, to the web using Emscripten. Working through the porting process was difficult at times, but overall an intriguing experience that taught me a lot about problem solving and working with large codebases like Speed Dream's. I enjoyed being a part of this project and had a wonderful time exploring the city of Kassel and other parts of Germany!
