Neoliberalism as we knew it is passé. In its place is a dynamic crisis capitalism whose characteristics and developments are difficult to classify. In order to understand this complicated economic situation and at the same time question it, we are launching a new online format: "Systemfrage - Wirtschaft nach dem Neoliberalismus". Every month, we invite critical economists and social scientists to discuss economic issues and concepts with us. In this way, we create a space for critical political-economic education in order to talk together about the economy in a transformative way and to communicate theoretical debates that are still largely excluded from mainstream economics.we are launching our format with a four-part online event series. In this series, we will deal with critical perspectives on the new industrial policy and the reproductive economy, as well as with the old-new debates on the collapse of capitalism and economic planning.

Sarah Uhlmann and Irina Herb address the question of what a holistic analysis of capitalism might look like. To this end, they present the theory of social reproduction ("Social Reproduction Theory" / SRT), which has so far been widely discussed primarily in the Anglo-American world. SRT advocates taking the contradiction between capital accumulation and the reproduction of life - which includes care work, housing, education, etc. - as the starting point for analysis. This opens up the possibility of understanding relations of exploitation and oppression as intertwined and thus also of combating them together.

Irina Herb deals with the political economy of social reproduction with a particular interest in fertility and pregnancy. She is currently working on a dissertation on Marxist perspectives on reproductive technologies at the University of Jena.
Sarah Uhlmann is a social scientist at the Department of International Relations with a focus on Latin America at the University of Kassel. Her research topics include urban and spatial sociology, social movements and political economy.
