EHEMALIGES POLIZEIPRÄSIDIUM KÖNIGSTOR - ERINNERUNGSPOLITIK | N.N. (City of Kassel), Stefan Rüppel, Michael Fuchs, Ann Katrin Düben and Conny Weckmann

The Gestapo headquarters for the administrative district of Kassel was located in the former police headquarters at Königstor from 1933 to 1938. It is the only surviving site of the Gestapo office in Kassel, whose up to 250 employees monitored over a million inhabitants between 1933 and 1945 and persecuted over 10,000, thousands of whom were murdered. Comparable historical sites have long been places of learning and remembrance elsewhere - for example in Halle, Stuttgart or Cologne. But Kassel is struggling. The erection of a memorial plaque met with years of resistance at the end of the 1980s. The state of Hesse is considering selling the building. Since summer 2023, an initiative has been criticizing the planned privatization and calling for a public memorial and place of learning.

With N.N. (City of Kassel),), Michael Fuchs (Studierendenwerk Kassel), Ann Katrin Düben (Director Gedenkstätte Breitenau), Stefan Rüppel (Police Trade Union and Conny Weckmann (Initiative Gedenkort Polizeipräsidium Königstor)
