Book 'Landscapes for Future - Landschaften und sozial-ökologische Transformationen' published

Global crisis phenomena such as climate change, the rapid decline of animal and plant species and the loss of valuable soils make it clear that socio-ecological transformations are necessary - especially in wealthy countries such as Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Landscapes can play an important role in these far-reaching changes because they are both the basis and the result of our economy and way of life.

This book provides a comprehensive overview of the connections between landscape thinking and socio-ecological change and answers questions such as:

What are the ideas of transformative landscape change? How do we work with them in practice?
How do we initiate processes of reflection and communication about sustainable landscapes?
What role can planners and other actors play in landscape change towards greater sustainability?
Which governance approaches can be used to shape landscape-related transformation processes? What significance do large protected areas - such as biosphere reserves - or regional parks have in this context?
What resistance and conflicts are there and how can they be dealt with?
What examples are there of landscapes being used as experimental spaces or real-world laboratories for socio-ecological transformations?

Markus Leibenath and Alena Birnbaum from the 'Landscape Planning and Communication' department have edited the volume together with Ludger Gailing from BTU Cottbus -Senftenberg.
