The article “Interoperability in the era of digital innovation: An information systems research agenda”, co-authored by Daniel Hodapp and André Hanelt has been published in the renowned Journal of Information Technology (JIT). The paper critically analyzes what is known about interoperability in the light of most recent phenomena of digital innovation. The study discusses what interoperability in the context of digital innovation encompasses, how it can be achieved and what it may lead to, including positive and negative outcomes. Finally, the article suggests a research agenda to foster the debate and close gaps in the understanding of interoperability in the context of digital innovation.
