The article was written in collaboration with Clemens Fuest, Niklas Potrafke and Fabian Ruthardt from LMU Munich and the ifo Institute and shows that elections have a decisive impact on the design of tax systems. In particular, taxes that voters feel directly in their wallets are strategically postponed until shortly after the elections.
