Brief introduction  (Dr. Ilze Dzene)

Ilze Dzene is a researcher at the section of Grassland and Renewable Plant Resources at the University of Kassel. Her research interests concern the use of residual biomass resources for energy and bio-based material production. She studied information technology and environmental engineering at Riga Technical University, Latvia and specialized in regional energy planning, sustainable use of residual biomass for production of biogas and solid biomass fuels. Her dissertation was done at Riga Technical University dealing with the simulation and optimization of regional energy systems to increase their sustainability. Ilze Dzene has more than 10 years of experience working in international research project teams, including development of applications for acquisition of the third-party funding, project coordination, dissemination and exploitation of project results. Her current research activities are focusing on biomass assessments and development of bio-based value chains for valorization of residual biomass streams for energy and added value materials, including bio-based carbon products and their applications.
