Dissertation honoured twice

A few weeks ago, Magdalena Fellner received the Ulrich Teichler Prize for outstanding dissertations (Ulrich-Teichler-Preis für hervorragende Dissertationen), awarded by the Society for Higher Education Research, for her dissertation. In her now double award-winning dissertation entitled Studierfähigkeit als soziales Konstrukt. Einschränkung und Erweiterung kollektiver Möglichkeitsräume durch zugrunde liegende Verständnisse“, Magdalena Fellner analyses and deconstructs the concept of “study ability” from a historical and comparative perspective. In doing so, she illuminated the effects of different understandings and rationalities of social differentiation at universities on the participation opportunities of social groups. Magdalena Fellner completed her dissertation with ‘summa cum laude’ at the Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria) in 2023. The open access publication of the thesis at Campus Verlag (Frankfurt a.M.) is planned for autumn 2024.

In June 2024, Magdalena Fellner was awarded a Post-Doc-Track-Stipendium der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften (post-doctoral track fellowship by the Austrian Academy of Sciences).

The Austrian Academy of Sciences awards scholarships to outstanding graduates of doctoral or PhD programmes in the humanities, social sciences and cultural sciences who are pursuing an academic career in order to facilitate the transition to the post-doc phase. In 2024, INCHER member Magdalena Fellner is one of the post docs honoured with this scholarship.

Magdalena Fellner worked as a senior scientist and course director at the Department of Higher Education Research at the University for Continuing Education Krems from 2019 to 2024. Fellner has continued her academic career since March 2024 as a Senior Researcher in the ‘Students and Graduates’ research area at INCHER. From 2016 to 2022, she worked as a research assistant at the Department of Educational Research at the Johannes Kepler University Linz, where she began and completed her dissertation.
