INCHER Colloquium 05. February 2025: "All organizations are hybrid, but some are more hybrid than others" by Olof Hallonsten
Lecturer: Associate Professor Dr. Olof Hallonsten, Lund University School of Economics and Management, Lund, Sweden
Abstract:
“Hybrid organizations” is a concept of growing popularity, but it is not entirely unproblematic. This talk will discuss the concept in the context of organization studies, demonstrating that it is at once a tautology (all organizations are hybrid) and a rather useful tool for studying organizations (some are more hybrid than others). Also, the concept and its use as an analytical tool will be connectes specifically to recent studies of universities and the changes they undergo, such as economization, politicization, bureaucratization, and the increased use of performance evaluation.
Olof Hallonsten is associate professor of sociology and senior lecturer in organization studies at the Lund University School of Economics and Management. His research is mainly concerned with theoretical and historical analyses of the functions of society’s major institutions (economy, politics, science, and so on), and their interfaces, with some emphasis on universities.
The INCHER lectures in winter semester 2024 are hybrid events.
