Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Wenwen Song completed her doctoral studies with "summa cum laude" at the Steel Institute (IEHK) of RWTH Aachen University in 2014. From 2016 to 2022, Prof. Song was Group Leader for Nanostructured Materials at RWTH Aachen University. Prof. Song was a visiting researcher at the University of Cambridge, UK, in 2015-2016 and received the Théodore von Kármán Fellowship at the University of Oxford in 2018. From 2017 to 2019, she was Scientific Director of Cloud III, "Hydrogen Management", within the Collaborative Research Center SFB 761 "Steel - Ab initio: Quantum Mechanically Guided Design of New Fe-based Materials" at RWTH Aachen University. In January 2021, she completed her habilitation on "Nanoengineering of high-strength steels" at RWTH Aachen University and received the Venia Legendi for "Nanoengineered Materials". Prof. Song has received several awards for innovative research and teaching, e.g. the Steel Innovation Award 2018 in Berlin, the Young Academy Award 2019 at the NRW Academy of Sciences, Düsseldorf, and the "Distinguished RWTH Lecturer" Award 2020 at RWTH Aachen University, etc. Since 2023, Prof. Song has been head of the department "Granularity of Material Structure Information" at the University of Kassel.

Prof. Song's research expertise is mainly in the development of nanostructured metallic materials using multi-scale correlative material characterization and simulation techniques. Her research at CINSaT focuses on the development of novel nanostructured metallic materials and processes for various sustainable applications in the focus area "Nanomaterials".
