Looking back: Presentation of the Hessian Archive Prize 2024 to the UniArchive Kassel

On Wednesday, April 9, 2025, the Hessian Archive Prize 2024 was awarded to the UniArchive Kassel at the event "Keeping Research alive". Dr. Peter Wegenschimmel has built up the UniArchive over the past two years and has focused on the guiding principle that archives are sustainability institutions. The idea of sustainability was always in the foreground. Documents worthy of archiving should be preserved and made accessible in such a way that they are still available to future generations. The archive is currently being digitized using a data management system. In order to preserve and research over 50 years of the University of Kassel and the development of the environmental and sustainability focus, Mr. Wegenschimmel has made contact with Ernst Ulrich von Weizsäcker, who held the first chair for ecological agriculture at the University of Kassel, and also with the Research Centre for the History of Ecological Building (FGÖB). Contact with the Green Office is also to be expanded in order to complete the university's environmental chronicle together.
