MSCA guidelines for supervision
As the EU's flagship program for researcher mobility and training, the MSCA promotes effective supervision, mentoring and appropriate career guidance for MSCA researchers.
The MSCA Guidelines on Supervisions serve as a reference to ensure that researchers are adequately supervised throughout the duration of their research project.
The guidelines are in line with the principles set out in the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.
The MSCA supervision guidelines should be taken into account from the very beginning, in the planning phase of the research project. They apply for the entire duration of the project.
They contain specific provisions for supervisors, researchers and institutions on the following aspects:
- Integration of researchers
- Research funding
- Career development
- Mentoring and well-being of researchers
- Communication and conflict resolution
- Training and professional development of supervisors
- Supervision is an essential element of successful MSCA research. It is of great importance for the career advancement of researchers.
- Good supervision helps to create a supportive environment for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers and research staff to carry out their work.
- Advice, support, guidance, counseling and mentoring from experienced staff are important prerequisites for those starting or resuming their careers in research.
