The most important dates and offers for the start of your studies

At the University of Kassel, there is no introductory event the . Rather, there is an extensive range of offers from various "organizers":

  • On the one hand, the departments offer an official program. This type of introduction is about the subject: What is the subject about? What specializations are offered in Kassel? Which Professors and subject areas determine the content? So: be sure to attend and ask questions!
  • For some (not all) degree programs and subjects, we recommend taking part in  preliminary courses. Pre-courses are aimed at first-year students who would like to refresh their knowledge in certain subjects. The preliminary courses start before the introductory dates.
  • The student councils often also offer introductory events. The student council is part of the student self-organization and deals with the specific questions of the students of a department. In terms of content, it deals with questions about the course of study, the organization of the curriculum, learning organization and examinations. The student councils therefore offer help on how best to study this subject.
  • There are also"welcome events" at : First semester welcome, offers for students with children, offers for international students.

Important terms explained

The Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences offers you the opportunity to take a free preliminary course in mathematics before the start of the first semester. A total of seven different mathematics pre-courses (tailored to the respective degree program) are offered. The courses last between four and six weeks and take place before the actual start of lectures.

The Intensive 1 or Compact 1/2 pre-course is recommended for this degree course in electrical engineering.

The Intensive 2 or Compact 1/2 pre-course is recommended for this degree course in metal technology.

Dates of the second subjects

We would like to welcome you to the Institute of Romance Studies at the University of Kassel and would like to provide you with important information in advance on behalf of the Spanish language practice.
In order to be admitted to study Spanish at the Institute of Romance Studies at the University of Kassel, you must provide proof of Spanish language proficiency at level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
However, in order to be able to study successfully, it is important that you develop your language skills quickly after starting your studies so that you can easily use Spanish at level B1, both to successfully complete the individual modules of language practice and to participate in the courses of the specialist sciences. We support you in this with special language practice courses, which are known as propaedeutic courses and are taught exclusively by native speakers. Within the first winter semester, you will reach level B1 through a combination of block courses and regular weekly sessions. You can see the exact structure of this course below.
If you can already demonstrate level B1, it is possible to attend the courses of the first module of language practice directly. If you have an even higher language level, please take the placement test scheduled immediately before the start of the semester ( 16.10.2024 /14:00 - 16:00, Kurt-Wolter-Str. 5, Room 0020) in order to find a suitable entry point into the language practice modules.
