The Council of Elders of the University of Kassel plays an important role as an independent judicial body within the student body. Its central task is to review the decisions of the student body. As part of an appeal procedure, the Council of Elders deals with challenges and checks whether the decisions of the student body are in line with applicable laws, university statutes and regulations as well as other relevant provisions. All members of the Council of Elders are independent of the lists in the Student Parliament.
Through its review function, the Council of Elders makes a significant contribution to safeguarding legality within student self-administration. It thus becomes an important authority that protects the democratic process within the student body and at the same time ensures that legal standards are binding.
