With the Promote your Career project, the University of Kassel is building a bridge to the German job market for international students in order to counteract the shortage of skilled workers.
The Career Service of the University of Kassel runs a working group for the employment of international students and graduates.
In the working group, we provide regional companies with reliable information and advice on relevant topics such as visas and residence law, arrange contacts with students and degree program coordinators and offer access to our services. We want to share information about challenges, needs and successes in the employment of international students and learn from each other.
Companies can decide for themselves how actively they would like to participate.
Forms of cooperation can be
- Placement of part-time jobs
- Arrangement of internships (German and English)
- Organization of lectures, workshops, case studies (...) at the university
- mentoring
- Offering excursions and factory tours in the company
- Developing your own ideas for collaboration
- Participation in 1-2 meetings per year
- Subscription to the newsletter

More than 400 international students start a Master's degree in Kassel every year. Many of them would like to work in Germany afterwards, but report problems when starting their careers. At the same time, there is already a shortage of academic specialists in North Hesse. Last year, the Hessian Ministry of Social Affairs published a forecast on the shortage of skilled workers in Hesse until 2028, according to which the city and district of Kassel alone lack more than 3,000 academically trained workers.
As part of the German Academic Exchange Service's "Campus Initiative for International Professionals", which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the university now wants to make it easier for international students to enter the German job market and thus strengthen the region's economy.
The "Promote your Career" project focuses on students on English-language Master's degree courses - these are particularly attractive for international students, while at the same time graduates leave the university with a high level of qualification but often without the specific German language skills that are still often considered essential for the German job market. "Promote your Career" focuses on the five Master's degree programs
- Economic Behavior and Governance (Department 07 Economics)
- International Food Business and Consumer Studies (Faculty 11 Ecological Agricultural Sciences)
- Sustainable International Agriculture (Faculty 11 Ecological Agricultural Sciences)
- Global Political Economy and Development (Faculty 05 Social Sciences)
- Electrical Communication Engineering (Faculty 16 Electrical Engineering/Computer Science)
For these, "Promote your Career" offers intensive German courses that bring the students up to German level B2 within 2 years. The project includes elements of technical and professional German, as well as knowledge of the German economic structure and individual career advice and application training. Students can earn credits for parts of the course.
Information and registration for the language course can be found on the Language Center website:
With the exception of the language courses, our courses are open to all international students.
