Welcome Week for international students in summer term 2025: April, 14.-16th. 2025

We would like to welcome you to the University of Kassel, bring you in contact with your fellow students, and introduce you to important service facilities.  Please do not miss the introductory events for your department.

There will be a two hours lasting late-arrival meeting at the beginning of May 2025 for all those who are unable to arrive in Kassel on time due to visa delays and miss the Welcome Week. So you don't have to worry about missing out - more information will follow.

Program overview

Monday, April 14th.

4 pm-6 pm.: Wel­co­me Event and Meet & Greet
At this welcoming event, the University board, the "Studierendenwerk" (Student Services Organisation), the "AStA" (students' union) and the team of the Welcome Center's team in the International Office would like to welcome you. Afterwards, there will be a casual and informal Meet & Greet with soft drinks and finger food. Location: Will be announced soon.

For those who cannot attend due to visa delays, the event will be streamed live.

Tuesday, April 15th.

10 am-12 pm: Information ses­si­on "Stu­dy­ing in Kassel"
We would like to provide you with important information, for example, how to use the CampusCard and E-Campus, and search for courses in the course catalogue. You will also get to know the Welcome Centre's student tutors in the International Office who will help you with organisational questions during the semester. There will be time for informal exchange. Location: Georg-Forster-Straße 4, rooms 0005/1004 (english groups), 2004 (german group)

Tuesday, April 15th.

4 pm-6 pm: Cam­pus Rally
Discover the beautiful main campus Holländischer Platz with our interactive campus rally and find out where you can eat lunch, borrow books, attend language courses, and relax during the lecture-free period. Our team of tutors will be waiting for you all over campus with tricky questions and funny games. Meeting point is at 4 p.m. in front of the Campus Center at Holländischer Platz (right next to the main canteen).


Wednesday, April 16th.

10 am-12 pm: Information ses­si­on "Li­ving in Kassel"
We would like to provide you with information about accommodation, public transport in Kassel and free-time activities.
You will also get to know the Welcome Centre' s student tutors in the International Office who will support you during the semester. Afterwards there will be time for informal exchange. Location: Georg-Forster-Straße 4, Räume: 0005/1004 (english groups) 2004 (german groups)

Mittwoch, April 16th.

1 pm-6 pm: Trip to Herkules
At a height of 530 meters, Hercules - Kassel's landmark - towers above Bergpark with a unique view over the cityl and the surrounding area. We start at 1 p.m. in front of the main canteen at the Holländischer Platz and take the tram together towards Herkules for a walk through the moutainpark. We will cover about 6 km and 240 meters of altitude. Therefore, a certain basic fitness is required ;) Please remember comfortable shoes, rainwear and something to drink.

Further offers at the beginning of studies

The library is indispensable on the way to a successful degree course. For this reason, the library offers face-to-face training. Registration is requested.

In this event, you will get to know the Career Service, an important service facility that provides support in finding an internship and starting a job and offers application portfolio checks, among other things. The event will take place via Zoom in German and English. You can register here.

Keeping track

Whether by bus, train, bicycle, or on foot, you have many possibilities to come to the university:

  • Parking spaces: Around the Campus Holländischer Platz there are very few parking spaces in the surrounding streets (Hentschelstraße, Mönchebergstraße). You must pay for parking. You might be able to find free parking spaces on the surrounding streets.
  • Train connections: The long-distance railway station is Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe. You can also reach Kassel main station via regional transport. You can find all train connections at www.bahn.de.
  • Bicycle: Kassel has around 400 rental bicycles available at 56 stations, including locations near Holländischer Platz, Menzelstraße, Heinrich-Plett-Straße and Wilhelmshöher Allee.   • Long-distance buses: Long-distance buses stop in Kassel at the Wilhelmshöhe bus/train station and at the P + R car park in Kassel-Ost.
  • Airports: The closest airports are Kassel-Calden, Frankfurt, Hannover, and Paderborn. From Kassel-Calden, you can take a taxi or bus 130 to Kassel city center. The exact timetable is available onthe Kasseler Verkehrsgesellschaft website . There are train connections to Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe from Frankfurt, Hanover and Paderborn.
  • You cannot only use your semester ticket to attend pre-courses, but also to travel free of charge in Kassel and to get to a few cities nearby by regular trains (Not ICE – fast trains). The AStA has put together some information for you.
  • Did you not receive your semester ticket on time? If not, you can ask for reimbursement.

Every student is advised to own a Campus Card. It can be used both as a means of payment at the canteens and cafeterias on Holländischer Platz and Heinrich-Plett-Straße as well as for printing and copying documents on campus. It also serves as an identity card for the university's library locations.  An increasing number of student dormitory tenants are using the card as a payment method for washing machines and dryers.
