A laptop is the technical equipment of choice!

Why: An essential part of studying psychology is learning how to work empirically and scientifically. The statistical analysis of data sets plays a major role in this. Usually, the free statistical software R is used, which cannot be used on any device. In particular, many tablets are not capable of running the software. We therefore recommend that when choosing a device, you make sure that it supports a full operating system (i.e., Windows, MacOS or Linux).

If you received your admission very late or you were sent your matriculation number very late, please contact the examination office regarding the course allocation. It is best to send an email which courses you would like to take and which alternatives you could accept.

In any case, you must study modules 1 - 3 according to the study plan. If you do not pass an exam at the first attempt, you will usually be offered a second exam opportunity in the same semester. This way you can still keep to the standard period of study. If you do not complete one of the modules mentioned above within the time period specified in the study plan, your studies will be extended by at least one year.

Please note that we cannot guarantee that the courses of the different years of study will not overlap in time. Therefore, we recommend that you follow the study progress plan or consult the study advisor.

If for some reason you are unable to study according to the recommended study plan, please contact the Student Advisory Service. They will assist you in creating an individual schedule.

You would like to have the non-psychology elective / supplementary subject recognized?

  • Please fill out the 2nd page of the form.

    • Please take the following documents with you or send them by e-mail:

Most psychology master's programs only begin in the winter semester. If you graduate in March, this means you will likely not have student status in the summer semester.

This may eventually affect you financially:

  • no student ticket
    • Public transportation
    • Mensa meals
    • various discounts at events
  • health insurance
  • Income (scholarship, Bafög)

For students studying according to the examination regulations 2014:

An internship that you complete before your studies cannot be credited as an internship of your study program. You can start the internship at the earliest  after the 2nd semester.

Why?

The purpose of the internship is for you to test your theoretically acquired knowledge in practice. You can only do this after you have acquired knowledge.

For students who started in the winter semester 2020/21 and study according to the new examination regulations:

Internship activities that were completed before the start of the study program can be credited to the four-week orientation internship at the request of the student if the internship took place in interdisciplinary health care facilities in which psychotherapists work.

For students who study according to the examination regulations of 2014 applies:

You can only receive credit for internships that comprise at least 240 hours (6 weeks full-time). You can also complete the internship part-time.

For students who started their studies in the winter semester 2020/21 and study according to the new examination regulations applies:

The internship lasts a total of 10 weeks, divided into a four-week orientation internship and a six-week professional qualifying activity. It can be divided into sections of at least 150 hours (four weeks full-time)....

Please check the exam regulations first for the criteria for an internship position and please read the following website.

Where can you find internship positions?

  • various websites
  • contacting fellow students of older semesters
  • research internships are offered sporadically via the psychologist distribution list
  • direct approach of lecturers, clinics, companies
  • via a list at the module supervisor for the internship Geraldine Jung
  • ...

You can also do internships abroad. The Studentenwerk Kassel or the International Office can inform you about financing possibilities.

How do you proceed (search, completion, graduation)?

  • Think about in which field of psychology you want to do an internship?
  • When do you want to do it?
  • Which places are suitable for you? Your finances, among other things, play a role here.
  • Do you need certain preparations (e.g. vaccinations, visas)?
  • Do you write a resume and a short letter of application?
  • After you have received the acceptance for the internship, send Dr. Geraldine Klaus an email, asking for approval of your internship.
  • optional: Get an internship contract.
  • You are completing the internship. It is best to make notes of what tasks you complete. This will make it easier to issue your internship certificate.
  • You have an internship certificate issued. You will need this for your internship report on the one hand and on the other hand you can use it e.g. for later applications.
  • You write the internship report and submit it to Dr. Geraldine Klaus.

If you have any problems or further questions, please contact the person responsible for the module Geraldine Jung.

How do you proceed?

  • Decide on a subject area(s).
  • Check the website of the corresponding department to see what topics are offered. You may also want to consider your own research question related to the topic offered.
  • Email the supervisor(s) to schedule an interview.
  • It is a good idea to read up a bit on the subject matter before the actual processing time begins to find out if the topic actually appeals to you.
  • If it is necessary for you to collect data in other cities, please discuss with your supervisor beforehand whether you can receive a travel allowance.
  • Once you and the supervisor are in agreement, complete the Bachelor Thesis Application.

  • Theoretically, it is possible for you to write the bachelor thesis outside the university. Please note that one of your two supervisors must be a professor of our institute.
