Project goals

We used the doKuMINTa project to identify suitable formats through which the STEM hub can be expanded in an evolutionary way during its dynamic foundation phase to include the cross-structure doKuMINTa, which represents the area of "art/arts". The term "art" is meant in the overarching sense of creative design, in which content and form interact and thus bring the STEM hub closer to an Anglo-Saxon STEAM hub.
In this way we want to
- illustrate the mutual relationship between art and STEM and create new, creative approaches to all areas involved,
- address and attract new target groups for STEM education and the arts,
- anchor holistic STEAM education in the region in a strategic and profile-building way and
- position the University of Kassel specifically in the international STEAM Center community.

Implementation of creative workshops
For us, holding creative workshops with people from the MIN(K)T areas is the instrument for a lively, creative exchange that drives the achievement of our vision:
- The development of a common language and collective understanding as well as a shared vision as a basis for exchange, which allows the involvement of national and international as well as intra- and extra-university partners.
- Identification of the points at which the pillars interlock with art: Where are there already points of contact in terms of content for a holistic STEM approach? What are the possibilities and limitations of combining content and activities?
The first creative workshop with people from all STEM areas took place at the University of Baltimore County, Baltimore in March 2022 and was a complete success. The aim of the workshop was to work with an experienced STEAM Center to develop an understanding of STEAM and its activities from the perspective of different target groups.

The second workshop took place from 16.05. - 19.05.2022 with the UMBC colleagues at the University of Kassel. Interesting lectures on STEAM research and activities from UMBC as well as a stimulating lecture by Prof. Joel Baumann from the Kunsthochschule on the topic of "Art beyond the museum" created a creative atmosphere. In addition, the interdisciplinary participants immersed themselves in the world of virtual reality in mathematics and art.
