Almost all electrical energy production and over 50% of electricity consumption is based on energy conversion in an electrical machine. Electric drive technology is therefore a key technology when it comes to energy saving. Currently, drive technology is experiencing an unprecedented boom, especially due to topics such as electromobility. The comparatively simple scalability as well as the possibility to change the speed with high efficiencies of over 90% at the same time make the electric drive so attractive. Mechanical solutions are therefore increasingly being replaced by mechatronic concepts. This requires interdisciplinary thinking, which is to be trained by means of industrial projects within the framework of the Vehicle Systems Research Network (FAST).
