Lectures in detail
Overview of the lectures offered by the Department of Microwave Electronics (MICEL)
The lectures are offered to students enrolled in our German Diploma curriculum, and our international ECE students as well. All lectures are given in English.
The course in Microwave Engineering starts with a lecture on passive microwave devices and components (Microwave Integrated Circuits I). Though the lecture is placed at the undergraduate level, it can also be taken as an elective course at the postgraduate level. For ECE students, it is offered in the Preparatory Semester.
At the next course level, linear active devices and components, and their measurement-based characterization as well, are covered (first master semester).
At the highest level of the course, nonlinear devices, components, and systems are covered (second master semester).
A lecture titled „RF Sensors Systems“ gives an overview about the various principles of ranging sensors, but is mainly focusing on near-field radar technologies. The student should have basic knowledge in Microwave Engineering. Basic knowledge in optoelectronic devices is also desirable.
In the international ECE course, the students have to take at least 20 SWH (semester-week-hour) per semester. The lectures commonly have 3 SWH (2h lecture + 1h exercise) and the practical training (Lab) 2 SWH.
To complete the required 20 SWH per semester additional lectures can be taken from other ECE Departments: Technical Electronics, Theoretical Electrical Engineering, Communication Engineering, and Communication Systems.
