FhG-IEE New Building

The project, coordinated by the University of Kassel, deals with the new building of the Fraunhofer Institute for Energy Economics and Energy Systems Technology IEE. The building hosts a very ambitious energy supply system that includes an ice storage heat pump system and façade-integrated ventilation modules. Hereby the integrated OGEMA automation system provides the option to control and optimize the building across all trades for both energy and indoor climate.

The heating concept
The project will demonstrate the usability of integrated innovative technologies and the achievement of energy savings by optimizing operations in ultra-low energy buildings.

The project includes comprehensive monitoring of all relevant system parameters and status variables as well as data collection and evaluation on indoor climate comfort and user satisfaction. In this way, the energy supply systems offers the possibility to readjust to achieve optimal interaction between all components. After Optimization, the expectations of energy savings are around 10%.

The transferability of the results is not only highly relevant for all planners, building control engineers, operators, and users of non-residential buildings with complex energy supply structures, but also for research in the field of energy-efficient buildings and building services engineering as well as for decision-makers for suitable funding measures.

The aim is to optimize the interaction of building and systems technology through monitoring and user surveys, resulting in energy savings. At the same time, the focus is on the transferability of the results for non-residential buildings with complex energy supply.
