Learning Objectives: 
High performance microprocessors. Design and operation of CISC, RISC and EPIC microprocessors. Acceleration techniques to improve the performance of microprocessors. Structure of superscalar microprocessors, special features such as cache and pipelining in scalar microprocessor system and multiprocessor system.

Structure of microcontrollers and architectures, performance evaluations of microprocessors, RISC and CISC microprocessor architectures, CISC using ColdFire microprocessor (MCF5206 and MCF5272). Different levels and structures of cache memory, cache protocols in multiprocessor system, structure and instruction orders in processor pipeline, scalar and superscalar instruction mapping, parallel processing.
