DASA project

The Department of Computer Engineering at the University of Kassel started a cooperation with DASA in March 2014.

The DASA is Germany's largest working world exhibition with experiences around the world of work: yesterday, today and tomorrow. Its headquarters are in Dortmund. It is the permanent educationally active institution of the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health and informs the public about the world of work, its significance for the individual and society, and the importance of humane work. More than 180,000 people visit the DASA every year. It consists of its 13,000-square-meter permanent exhibition as well as numerous changing special exhibitions and themed events that draw the crowds.

Very recently, a new permanent exhibition on the subject of fire protection was set up with a control station of the Dortmund Fire Department as well as with original props, such as fire trucks, firefighting equipment, etc.

The Department of Computer Engineering at the University of Kassel, headed by Prof. D. Wloka, developed simulation software for this purpose, among other things, which demonstrates state-of-the-art e-learning possibilities. Among other things, e-learning courses on fire protection, fire defense and fire prevention were developed for visitors. For one course, a 3D simulation was created to show the correct procedure for extinguishing a room fire using various extinguishing agents.

Furthermore, the operation of an aerial rescue vehicle is simulated in action. Visitors can also check their level of knowledge in various courses, such as fire safety instruction in accordance with the Occupational Safety Act and the correct reporting of a traffic accident to the rescue center. In addition, the topic "How to operate a fire extinguisher" was covered in a course.  The response from the experts has been excellent. Further projects for the DASA permanent exhibition with the Department of Computer Engineering have already been started.
