Project description: | In the course of digitalization and globalization, our world is in a constant state of flux and future societal challenges are not yet foreseeable. In order to be able to deal creatively with uncertainty and complexity, children and young people need so-called "future competencies" that ensure social and individual well-being. The focus of school is broadening beyond the teaching of subject knowledge to include a variety of interdisciplinary competencies. Empirical findings suggest that learning environments that promote the active self-directed (co-)construction of knowledge are particularly suited to foster such competencies. The FiZ project therefore focuses on (all-day) schools that organize learning in a self-directed and cooperative manner, including the Steinwaldschule in Neukirchen and the Martinschule in Greifswald. The project investigates how the acquisition of future competencies can be promoted by such learning concepts and which features of the spatial and social design of learning environments are significant for the students. In addition, the project will investigate which indications for the future design of learning environments can be derived from the information provided by the students. The mixed-methods study focuses on students' perspectives on learning. In order to be able to accompany the development of the design of the learning environment (from the students' point of view) and to be able to survey its influences on the development of selected future competencies, the study is designed to run for three (school) years (2022/23 - 2024/25). |
