The eight papers gathered in this volume can be read independently, but they have numerous thematic overlaps and convergences along the same methodological lines: they all analyze intuitions that appear in suggestive canonical works from the Spanish "Siglo de Oro" to the present, and through them they intervene in a series of conceptual debates. Thus, they discuss modernity as defined by Don Quixote, the discrepancy and analogy between literary fiction and historical scholarship, the unique anti-skeptical background of Cervantes' realism, the possible compatibility of ethics and aesthetics in the realm of narrative, the crucial foundations for interpreting works of fiction, and, finally, the correlation between personal identity and diegesis.
