10th Italy Day: Discourses on violence and gender

We live in times in which gender-equitable speech is a political issue and so-called masculinists use the internet for anti-feminist fantasies. The tenth Italy Day at the University of Kassel takes a historical perspective and examines discourses on violence and gender in Italy from the Renaissance to the present day. The lectures will examine historical, literary and artistic representations of violence and gender roles. They range from competitions in the early modern period to portraits of victims and perpetrators in painting and the literary examination of crime reporting in 19th and 20th century verismo to current films about female murders.
