Scientific writing

Every semester, the seminar "Academic writing for teacher training students" is offered, led by Fabian Mehmel. You will find it offered in the course catalog as part of various modules for teaching degrees 1-3. The number of participants is limited to approx. 15.

Under "Cross-institute/practice-oriented courses" in Faculty 02, the highly popular "Propaedeutic course" on academic work and writing is listed in the course catalog. It is currently offered every semester by Karolin Schäfer. It is purely a support course without module assignment or credit allocation.

The ISZ/Language Center offers writing courses and writing advice for international students whose native language is not German.

Thesis workshop: Tackling the final writing phase of your studies
For all students of Faculty 02 who are planning or at the beginning of their final thesis - be it the Bachelor's, Master's or exam thesis

The aim of the one-day workshop is to plan the writing phase in terms of organization and content. In addition to input phases, students can reflect on their professional interests, develop a research question and draw up a timetable in numerous practical exercises. They can also discuss their experiences with invited graduates. Individual counseling appointments are then offered.

A writing day for students of the department is also planned for the summer semester 2025. Students will be instructed to formulate realistic writing goals and reflect on them at the end of the writing time. In a productive working atmosphere, there will be plenty of time to write. In addition, there are tips for a writing flow and individual consultations if required.

In Module 2, the seminar "Text Competence" is offered every semester, currently led by Christopher Hofmann. It teaches basic skills for academic writing and working.

Trained student writing consultants provide advice on all questions relating to academic writing and thus help to find sustainable and individual solutions. You can make an appointment here:

The explanatory video series 'Leo - Gewusst wie!', also offers online insights into important topics and questions of academic writing.

This annual workshop and advisory program of the University Library focuses on academic work, literature research and academic writing.

What is educational coaching and is it right for me?
Studying brings with it many challenges. Educational coaching offers one-to-one support on topics such as motivation, procrastination, self-concept and resources. It is aimed at everyone, from dropouts to self-optimization, but not at people with pathological patterns that require psychotherapeutic treatment. If necessary, the coach will refer you to suitable counseling centers.

How does educational coaching work?
An introductory meeting is followed by one to three 45-minute sessions. The process is individual and aims to provide impulses for finding solutions. Exercises can be adapted at any time. Coaching usually takes place in the office at Kurt-Wolters-Straße 5.

Who is the education coach at Faculty 02?
Annika Rink, research assistant at the Institute of Romance Studies, is offering coaching sessions for students at the department until December 2025. She studied to become a teacher and completed further training as an education coach in 2024.
