"Are you studying German abroad? Why is that?" - is a common reaction when people tell you that they are studying German language, culture and literature in Germany and Hungary. Despite all the doubts, the binational master's degree is worthwhile in more ways than one.

Julia Pater and Melanie Henkler, two Master's graduates report on the advantages of the binational course of studies.

"A semester abroad is a great experience. The opportunity to get to know another culture and new people in this way should not be missed. Not even as a student of German Studies. With the binational Master's program this is automatically included. And in addition the study program is very well organized. Many questions, such as the search for accommodation, only arise to a limited extent for students, as those responsible at the universities take care of the general planning. This means that you can simply concentrate on your semester abroad and always have someone to talk to if you have any problems. A great extra is the Double degree : At the end, you receive certificates from both universities.

In addition, the semester abroad in Szeged provides insights into another area of research in German studies: In addition to the chairs for linguistics and literature, the University of Szeged also has a chair for Austrian culture and literature.

If you have not only dreamed of the wide world, but have actually dared to go abroad as a student of German studies , you can be sure of a decisive advantage over those at home: One gets to know the German language and German studies from a new perspective, because in the seminars with fellow Hungarian students and professors, questions come up that would not even arise at German universities. The new perspective gained by contrasting the languages is enlightening and would certainly not arise in this way during a domestic study program."
