A list of all banned books - how and why?
Theproject 'The Kassel List' offers an open online seminar from Kassel and Vancouver. The event takes place as part of the 'Freedom of Expression Week', organized by the German Publishers and Booksellers Association.

The 'Kassel List', the world's largest directory of banned books, has been online since 2019. It comprises over 120,000 titles and is constantly being expanded, primarily by students at the University of Kassel, who are investigating censorship in various countries and regions in projects of their own choosing. They add banned books to the list and in this way make censorship visible all over the world.
In our open seminar, we would like to present the 'Kassel List' and discuss these questions with you: Is it even possible to document all the book bans in the world? What obstacles stand in the way and why should this actually be done? And what does censorship actually mean today and do we need to change our understanding of censorship under certain circumstances?

Our Zoom room, for which you can register with your real name, is a space in which we will discuss controversially, but always in a respectful and friendly manner.
