Dissertation Project: "KunstSprech. Linguistische Untersuchungen zum Vorwurf der Unverständlichkeit von Kunsttexten" (Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Andreas Gardt)

In the dissertation project "KunstSprech", texts about art (especially art criticism) are analyzed with regard to their comprehensibility-relevant characteristics. Using the text semantic analysis grid (according to Gardt 2012) and its multimodal extension (according to Klug 2013; 2017), the texts are analyzed after they have been verified as "incomprehensibly perceived" by an empirical survey among students. Building on the findings of comprehensibility research, which are made fruitful for linguistic analysis, a systematic approach for analyzing comprehensibility-impairing features in texts of art discourse will be developed. In addition, using the example of "KunstSprech", the results provide information on the socially relevant topic of comprehensibility, which also touches on discussions about participation, so-called "easy language", etc.
