Annual Report 2013/2014
Dear readers, the reporting period 2013/2014 was very eventful, successful and moving for the Department of Information Systems and for me personally. With the anniversary celebration in summer 2013, I can now already look back on 5 diversified years of the Department of Information Systems, which have been characterized by constant growth. In addition, I have had the opportunity to become active at the Institute of Information Systems at the University of St. Gallen (IWI HSG) on a part-time basis as Hubert Österle's successor and to get to know a new world, with many new opportunities and challenges. The past year was again characterized by numerous new research projects, a significant growth in third-party funding, staff and publications. Since the last reporting period, our team in Kassel has grown by three new scientific staff members. The strong team with 21 scientific staff and 3 post docs enabled us to tackle numerous new research projects again last year. In summer 2013, our new project kuLtig (Systematic development and piloting of methods and models for culturally sensitive learning service engineering using China as an example) started. The aim of this project is to develop methods, models and tools for the culturally sensitive design of IT-supported learning services in order to enable German continuing education providers to efficiently and successfully export their offerings to China. Through a targeted use of IT and e-learning elements, distances in service delivery can be reduced and thus the costs of continuing education can be lowered. Our post-doc Dr. Ulrich Bretschneider and I were awarded the coveted Emerald Science Prize "Citation of Excellence" 2013. The prize was awarded to us and our co-authors by the Technical University of Munich for the article "Leveraging crowdsourcing: Activation- Supporting Components for IT-Based Ideas Competition", published in the Journal of Management Information Systems. Dear readers, the reporting period 2011/2012 was again extremely successful for the Department of Information Systems. The past year was characterized by numerous new research projects, significant growth in third-party funding, staff and publications.A total of four new research projects funded with more than 1.2 million euros, three of them by the BMBF and BMWi, one by industry, cover different research foci very well and complement the already ongoing activities in the areas of service engineering, IT innovation management, collaboration engineering, and strategic IT managementment excellently. The BMBF-funded joint project "TANDEM" (www.projekt-tandem.info) aims to leverage the innovationpotential of young and old employees by creating age-diverse communities. In so-called TANDEMs, older and younger employees of a company jointly generate innovation ideas, develop them further and transfer them into concrete development projects. The "TAAndem" project (www.taandem.de), which is also funded by the BMBF, focuses on joint learning and development of nursing and technical skills in tandems. The Value4Cloud project (www.value4cloud.de), funded by the BMWI, aims to research and develop market-supporting value-added services related to cloud computing. The first two BMBF-funded projects Mobil50+ and Mobile HybirCare were successfully completed during the reporting period. In the Mobil 50+ project (www.projekt-mobil50.de), "Bring Dich ein!", a user-friendly, free and regional Internet platform, has been developed. [...]

Dear readers, the reporting period 2010/2011 was again very successful for the Department of Information Systems, characterized by the start-up of numerous new projects, awards and a significant growth in third-party funding, staff and publications. A total of seven new research projects were publicly funded with more than 1.7 million euros by the EU, the federal government and industry, covering a wide range of topics. The joint project "BlendedContENT" (Blended Continuing Education with New Technologies) is developing a productivity-oriented training and continuing education program in the plumbing, heating and air-conditioning industry (SHK) from a learning service engineering perspective, incorporating Web 2.0 technologies. The joint project "EDiMed" (efficiency evaluation of service configurations in telemedicine) aims to improve care processes through telemedicine. The joint project "ProduSE" (productivity increase in education and training through service engineering) aims to develop new methods and models for increasing productivity in the area of blended learning in continuing education. All projects are funded by the BMBF. The EU-funded project "IOIT" (Inspiring Open Innovation Team) uses open innovation approaches to develop solutions that sustainably strengthen the innovation and competitiveness of the local economy and higher education institutions. Annual Report 2009-10
Dear readers, the Department of Information Systems can look back on a very successful and growing year 2009. In research, together with our colleagues in the research center ITeG, we succeeded in getting a large research project VENUS (Design of technical-social networking in situational ubiquitous systems) funded with about 4.2 million Euros from 2010 to 2012 within the 2nd funding round of the Hessian State Offensive for the Development of Scientific-Economic Excellence (LOEWE). This lays an important and strong foundation for further joint activities in the direction of the Excellence Initiative and the DFG's Collaborative Research Center. We were also successful in acquiring new research projects in other areas. For example, in addition to various industry-funded research projects, we were able to successfully launch a joint project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics called Know More (Optimization potential and innovation impetus for patient safety in medical technology). The Handelsblatt sees me in the context of his 2100 people in D, A, Ch comprehensive business economists research ranking on place 40 of the most research-intensive researchers of the last five years and on place 24 of the "under 40-year-old" researchers. Looking at the context and at [...]
