Development of market-supporting value-added services to promote trust, legal compatibility, quality and use of cloud services

Cloud computing is one of the most important trends currently occupying the ICT industry, and it also offers small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) the opportunity to develop a multitude of innovative business models. Among other things, the demand-oriented provision of computing power, storage capacities and software via the Internet is made possible. This is also possible via different end devices, whereby a location-independent and flexible access to information can be guaranteed. The possibilities offered by cloud computing services are enormous. However, it is also important to adequately counter the challenges that arise in this context, to research them and to develop solution scenarios.

The aim of the funded project Value4Cloud is to research and develop market-supporting value-added services for everything to do with cloud computing. The integration of these value-added services in already existing marketplaces and information portals (such as BITKOM cloud-practice.de) is aimed at users and providers from German medium-sized companies. This is done, for example, through the structuring of the information provided, the categorization of cloud services, services for the quality assessment of cloud services, services for benchmarking cloud services and for trust support. Providers are supported, for example, by design proposals for the development of legally compatible cloud service offerings and open service innovation. In addition to the implementation and piloting of value-added services, business, service and operator models are developed.

The Value4Cloud project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) as part of the "Trusted Cloud" technology program, which aims to develop and test innovative, secure and legally compliant cloud computing services. The BMWi technology program "Trusted Cloud" is part of the Cloud Computing action program, which the BMWi started in October 2010 together with partners from business and science.
