In 2021 the unit has been extremely successful in submitting research papers for presentation at internationally peer-reviewed conferences. All unit members had the opportunity to discuss their research with international colleagues. On the basis of competitive review processes, the unit was, for example, represented at the following conferences:

Dr. Elke D. Groh, Dr. Gunnar Gutsche, Dr. Anja Köbrich León, and Prof. Dr. Andreas Ziegler had the opportunity to present their current work at the 26th Annual Conference of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE) (online) from June 23 to June 25, 2021. 

Dr. Gunnar Gutsche and Dr. Anja Köbrich León had the opportunity to present their current work at the 36. Konferenz der European Economic Association (EEA) (online) from August 23 to August 27, 2021. 

Daniel Engler and Dr. Gunnar Gutsche had the opportunity to present their current work at the Jahrestagung des Vereins für Socialpolitik (online) from September 26 to September 29, 2021.

The Units Empirical Economic Research and Sustainable Finance hosted the third "Workshop on Empirical Sustainable Finance (WESFi)" on December 09 and 10, 2021. Current empirical work and ideas on the topics of "Socially Responsible Investing (SRI)" and "Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)" were presented and discussed. Due to the Corona crisis, the workshop was organized in digital form.

Dr. Gunnar Gutsche had the opportunity to present his current work at the Annual Conference of the Global Research Alliance for Sustainable Finance and Investment conference in New York (online) from September 08 to September 11, 2020.

Dr. Anja Köbrich León had the opportunity to present her current work at the Annual Conference of the Economic Science Associatiion (ESA) (online) from September 10 to September 12, 2020.

Prof. Dr. Andreas Ziegler, Dr. Gunnar Gutsche, Dr. Anja Köbrich León, and Dr. Elke D. Groh had the opportunity to present their current work at the Jahrestagung des Vereins für Socialpolitik in Cologne (online) from September 27 to September 30, 2020.

On October 13, 2020, the Units Empirical Economic Research and Sustainable Finance hosted the second "Workshop on Empirical Sustainable Finance (WESFi)". The workshop was part of the BMBF funded project "Instruments for financing low-emission infrastructure and their significance for climate policy (IF)". The participants presented and discussed recent empirical studies and ideas on "Socially Responsible Investing (SRI)" and "Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)". Due to the corona crisis, the workshop was organized in hybrid form. As in the previous year, this enabled renowned researchers from various countries (Germany, Switzerland, France, Canada, Japan) to participate.

Prof. Dr. Andreas Ziegler, Dr. Gunnar Gutsche, Dr. Anja Köbrich León, Daniel Engler, Ipek Eraydin, Dr. Elke D. Groh, and Amantia Simixhiu had the opportunity to present their current work at the 24^th annual Conference of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE) in Manchester from June 26 to June 29, 2019. 

Daniel Engler and Dr. Elke D. Groh presented their latest work at the 34^th annual Congress of the European Economic Association conference in Manchester from August 26 to August 30, 2019.

From September 22 to September 25, 2019, the chair was represented with presentations by ​​Prof. Dr. Andreas Ziegler, Dr. Gunnar Gutsche, Dr. Anja Köbrich León, and Dr. Elke D. Groh at the annual meeting of the Verein für Socialpolitik in Leipzig.

Once a year, the Junior Research Award of the Graduate School of Economic Behavior and Governance (GS EBGo) is granted to a junior researcher of the Institute of Economics at the University of Kassel for outstanding publications in scientific journals. On November 21, 2019 the prize was awarded to Elke D. Groh (Unit Empirical Economic Research) and Sonja Zitzelsberger (Unit Environmental and Behavioral Economics).

On August 6, 2019, the unit hosted an international workshop on "Empirical Sustainable Finance". Researchers from Waseda University in Tokyo, École de Management Léonard da Vinci in Paris, and the University of Kassel participated in this first-time workshop. The participants presented and discussed recent empirical studies and ideas on "Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)" and "Socially Responsible Investing (SRI)".

In 2019 the Unit Environmental and Behavioral Economics (Prof. Dr. Dannenberg) and the Unit Empirical Economic Research hosted the workshop for young researchers of the "Ausschuss für Umwelt- und Ressourcenökonomik (AURÖ) im Verein für Socialpolitik". These workshops are addressed to young researchers who conduct research in the field of environmental and resource economics. The workshop took place from February 18 to February 20, 2019, at the Campus Center of the University of Kassel. Besides exciting presentations and discussions, the workshop welcomed very prominent guests, i.e. Prof. Dr. Stefan Baumgärtner (University of Freiburg), Prof. Dr. Andreas Lange (University of Hamburg), Dr. Ulrich Oberndorfer (Federal Chancellery), and Prof. Dr. Daan van Soest (Tilburg University), as keynote speakers.
