Prof. Dr. Ayalneh Bogale has joined the University of Kassel since April 01, 2022 as a Wangari Maathai Visiting Professor at the Global Partnership Network (GPN). Ayalneh Bogale had served as Advisor in Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security at the Department of Rural Economy and Agriculture of the African Union Commission (AUC) seconded by Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) from November 2013 to June 2020. Before joining the AUC, he had worked as Director and Associate Professor of Food Security at the African Centre for Food Security (ACFS) of the University of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. He had also served at Haramaya University with various academic ranks and management responsibilities. He has a wide range of experience in academics, research and policy advice. He had received various research and fellowship awards including Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship (2007-2009), Agriculture for Peace Research Fellowship from the International Foundation for Science and the Institute for Advanced Studies of the United Nations University (2004). His professional and research interests are adaptation and resilience to climate change, economics of resource degradation, poverty and food security, property rights to land and conflict. Ayalneh Bogale holds PhD Degree in Agricultural and Resource Economics from Humboldt University of Berlin (2002) and BSc and MSc in Agricultural Economics from Haramaya University, the then Alemaya University of Agriculture, Ethiopia.
