Excursion of the steel construction department in June 2025

As part of the excursion week in the summer semester 2025, the Department of Steel Construction is planning a three-day excursion from 23.06 to 25.06.2025. All students of the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs of the FB14 are cordially invited to attend.

Planned program items:

• 23.06. and 24.06.25: Welding course at the BZ Bildungszentrum Kassel
• 25.06.25: Tour of steel construction company

Contents of the welding course at the BZ:

Introduction to welding

• Basics of welding
• Safety precautions and personal protective equipment
• Handling flammable and explosive materials
• Emergency measures and first aid in the event of welding accidents

Welding machines and equipment

• Design and operation of MAG and LBH welding equipment
• Handling and maintenance of the equipment

Practical exercises MAG and manual metal arc welding

• Cleaning and preparing workpiece surfaces
• Setting the welding parameters according to the materials and seam geometry
• Carrying out welding work under the guidance of experienced instructors
• Welding various components and configurations to apply the knowledge acquired
• Performing various welding positions (flat, vertical, overhead and horizontal position)
• Adjusting welding parameters for different materials and thicknesses
• Techniques for manual arc welding
• Mastering the arc length and welding speed

Quality control and troubleshooting

• Visual inspection of weld seams
• Identification of welding defects and how to rectify them

All participants receive a certificate from BZ-Kassel.

The number of participants is limited to ten students.
