Research Focus:

I am interested in applying numerical methods to enhance process understanding and support the sustainable use of groundwater resources. My research focuses on employing bulk-effective dual-permeability modeling to account for diffuse and non-equilibrium infiltration at the catchment scale, aiming to predict groundwater recharge and vadose-phreatic storage dynamics in karst groundwater systems within Mediterranean climates. Semi-arid climates are characterized by significant spatiotemporal variation in precipitation and can be particularly vulnerable to drought conditions. I am studying the impacts of climate change and exploring potential mitigation strategies, such as managed aquifer recharge, to compensate for reduced natural groundwater recharge. My ongoing work involves conducting laboratory- and field-scale experiments and utilizing geophysical tools to explore and address the limitations of bulk-effective approaches, with the goal of developing computationally feasible tools for groundwater management.
