Association for the Promotion of Research and Knowledge Transfer in Social Law and Social Policy e.V.

Many researchers and lecturers in the fields of social law and social policy work at both Fulda University of Applied Sciences and the University of Kassel. In addition to the social services and facilities that are important for the region, other service providers, service providers, training centers and courts, institutions and companies of regional, national and international importance can also be found in the administrative district of Kassel.

The remarkable density of researchers interested in social law and social policy in the region, as well as the large number of institutions and companies based here with thematically relevant fields of activity, had for some time triggered considerations aimed at pooling existing interests and expertise. The Verein zur Förderung von Forschung und Wissenstransfer in Sozialrecht und Sozialpolitik e.V. (Association for the Promotion of Research and Knowledge Transfer in Social Law and Social Policy) was founded to promote networking between the parties involved. It was founded on January 17, 2012 at the Federal Social Court in Kassel.

About the association

Through its board and its members, the association is intended to serve as an interface to disseminate research findings to society and to articulate society's interest in research. To this end, the association aims to expand cooperation between practice and science . It supports cooperation between researchers, teachers and students at Fulda University of Applied Sciences, the University of Kassel and other universities in the region, as well as institutions and companies based in the region.

As the members of the association are mainly researchers, teachers and practitioners from the region, they are very familiar with current relevant topics and problems. The association can thus help to identify topics relevant to research and practice, which can provide ideas for research projects, dissertations and theses. This knowledge can also be used in other ways: the association can organize and facilitate lectures, conferences and workshops and be present at other events in a profitable way.

At these meetings, employers, graduates and interns can be given a platform to get to know each other. Finally, the association serves to identify and cover the training needs of employees.

The association currently has 48 members, most of whom come from the various areas of science and practice covered by the association. For example, 22 members belong to the scientific field. A further five members work for social institutions or associations. In addition, there are two members with a church background, five members from the (social) justice system and three members from the field of public administration.

Nora Platiel Prize for outstanding master's/state examination theses

Since 2021, the Verein zur Förderung von Forschung und Wissenstransfer in Sozialrecht und Sozialpolitik e.V. has been awarding the Nora Platiel Prize. The prize is endowed with prize money of €2,000 and is intended to recognize outstanding master's theses in the fields of social law and social policy.

Current invitation to tender

The lecture series Social Law and Social Policy in Jurisprudence and Science has existed since 2003 and is based on the initiative of individual academics from the Faculty of Economics and Management at the University of Kassel (Prof. Dr. Andreas Hänlein) and representatives of the Federal Social Court (Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Spellbrink). While the lecture series initially focused primarily on questions and aspects of social law, the establishment of the research network has led to a disciplinary and thematic expansion, as a result of which topics and aspects of social policy are now also the subject of discussion. Each semester, two events are organized at the University of Kassel as part of this series.

The lecture series "Social Economy Meets Science", organized by the association and the leagues of independent welfare in the city and district of Kassel, is entirely in line with the association's objectives. Through the speakers and their topics, it aims to highlight links between practice and science and offer a meeting point for participants from both areas. The speakers and guests regularly include representatives from science and practice.

Research network

Researchers from Fulda University of Applied Sciences and the University of Kassel have been working together on an interdisciplinary basis in the Research Network for Social Law and Social Policy (FoSS) since 2013. The participants come from the Faculties of Humanities, Social Sciences and Economics at the University of Kassel and the Departments of Health, Social Sciences and Cultural Studies at Fulda University of Applied Sciences. In the FoSS, they work on socio-political and socio-legal topics from the perspectives of political science, law and economics, sociology, social pedagogy, social medicine and history, among others.
