BiTWerk at the University of Kassel campus festival

At the University of Kassel's campus festival on May 23, 2024, the Institute of Materials Engineering presented the research cluster "BiTWerk - Biological Transformation of Technical Materials" at its stand and was pleased with the lively attendance and great interest.

Our "Flexi-Rexis", which we printed live on site in 3D and which visitors were welcome to take home, were particularly popular. We also presented our Institute's 3D laboratory model to visitors in a kind of black box.

Immediately after the visit by Timon Gremmels, Hessian Minister for Science and Research, Art and Culture, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Niendorf and Dr.-Ing. Michael Hartung gave a short presentation in the evening, giving the eager audience a vivid insight into the world of materials and, with BiTWerk, an outlook on their future:

Materials - Irreplaceable or an environmental burden?
Are plastic, metal, concrete etc. still justifiable in view of their large ecological footprint? Can they be replaced at all? From the search for future-oriented solutions...

Around 8,000 guests visited the University of Kassel's campus festival this year. At around 80 stands and program items, they were able to find out about studying, research and teaching at the University of Kassel, experiment for themselves, take a look behind the scenes and enjoy good music.

We look forward to the Campusfest 2026!
