DAAD award for Kassel goes to Naureen Ahmed (01.12.2020)
Naureen Ahmed already knew from her brother that studying in Kassel was good - he, like her, comes from Bangladesh and studied mechanical engineering in Kassel and did his doctorate. "My brother suggested about the university and the city so much that after my bachelor's degree in Bangladesh I decided to come to Kassel for my master's degree."
She decided to do her master’s degree in Electrical Communications Engineering - subject head Prof. Dr. Hartmut Hillmer was so impressed with her performance that after her successful graduation, he not only offered her a position as a research assistant and assistant, but also suggested her for the DAAD award for outstanding achievements by foreign students.
Despite a purely English-language course, she acquired excellent German skills and was committed to her fellow students in Faculty 16 and was socially and culturally involved in a variety of ways.
The DAAD prize for outstanding performance by foreign students is awarded annually. At the suggestion of a lecturer, special academic achievements and remarkable social or intercultural commitment at the University of Kassel are recognized. The prize is endowed with 1,000 euros.

Natalie Worapattrakul achieves 2nd place in the "Nano-Momente" contest (Nov. 12th, 2013)
With her image "Kleines Wachstumswunder" in English "a small miracle of growth" Natalie Worapattrakul made the second place in the "Nano-Momente" contest held by the German Association of Nanotechnology (Deutsche Verband Nanotechnologie). The scanning electron microscope image reveals two metal mirrors, which are fixed to the surface of the substrate by hinges. Through tailored process parameters the mirror behavior can be manipulated. In this case the chosen parameters result in an almost vertical standing of the mirrors. Together with the slight sideward curling of the structures they remind the observer of growing sprouts.
You can find further information at the website of the German Association of Nanothechnology.
VDI-Award 2012 granted to Matthias Joseph Knape (Feb. 10th, 2012)

Knape, since 2010 scietific coworker in the Group Biochemistry at the University of Kassel, included his work into the international state of the art exemplary and preseted solutions and ongoing experiments to all occuring problems. His highly commitment in this interdisciplinary work leaded to the implentation of a new technological concept.
The official award ceremony will take place on the University Day on Friday, February 10th 2012.
4th place in the photo contest "Nano+Art 2011" (March 20th, 2011)
Natalie Worapattrakul achieved the 4th place in the photo contest "Nano+Art 2011", which was held by the BMBF-Initiative nano4women. Her scanning electron microscope image "It’s a boy!" is inspired by the biology of the human body. In the centre of the image the successive letters X and Y are depicted. These remind the observer of the male sex chromosome of human.
Poster-prize of the Kasseler Hochschulbund bestowed to Ferdinand Messow (25.01.2010)
he poster-prize 2009 of the Kasseler Hochschulbund e.V. in the category “Technical and Natural Sciences” was awarded to Ferdinand Messow on January 25th. His poster with the title: “Hybrid Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Laser with Organic Active Material for the UV-Range” prevailed against 22 other outstanding posters.
Onny Setyawati is second winner of the "nano+art" contest (April 24th, 2009)
With her image "sea star" Onny Setyawati has become second winner of the nano+art contest. You can find the image in our nanoart gallery. The image shows an "SEM micrograph of underetching process of a nanoimprint-polymer (of ~200nm in thickness) underneath the dielectric material (DBR mirror) (of ~600nm in thickness). Residual polymer is shown, and the structure peeled off after the process. With additional lighting and bubbles, the structure looks like a sea star that rests silently under the sea, that is why this picture is put under the thema ´Ruhe´."
INA is "Landmark in the Land of Ideas" (Dec. 12th, 2008)
With our micro mirror project the INA, technological electronics group has been elected as "Landmark in the Land of Ideas". Therefore we participate on the event series "365 Landmarks in the Land of Ideas 2009", which is performed by the “Germany – Land of Ideas” nation-branding initiative and Deutsche Bank. It is under the patronage of President Horst Köhler.
We were celebrating the award ceremony on February 16th, 2009 with an "open window day".
VDI-Award 2008 granted to Matthias Wulf (Dec. 12th, 2008)
The VDI Nordhessen (Association of German Engineers) has again awarded prizes for an outstanding PhD thesis and a diploma thesis this year. The diploma prize was granted to Matthias Wulf for his diploma thesis I entitled “Structuring of Filter Membranes with Photonic Crystals and Zone Plates”.
This work has the character of a feasibility study, in which the possibilities are investigated to etch structures in the nanometer range in the topmost membrane of a Fabry-Perot-filter to be equipped with additional features. First, the corresponding designs were simulated and afterwards, the technological process steps were optimized to minimize any dimensional variation from the design.
The official award ceremony will take place on the University Day on Friday, February 13th 2009 at 5 pm in the central cafeteria at Moritzstraße, main campus.
