Issue 4/25 of the magazine Forschung & Lehre is dedicated to the topic of "Freiheit unter Druck" (‘Freedom under pressure’). Magdalena Fellner's article ‘Entwicklungsfähig: Studierfähigkeit als dynamisches Konstrukt’ (‘Able to develop: the ability to study as a dynamic construct’) looks at university access from this perspective.
In her paper Magdalena Fellner argues that university admission has always been a politically relevant and controversial issue due to the occupation of socially influential positions. While hierarchical social concepts tend to lead to a static concept of study ability, egalitarian concepts, on the other hand, give rise to a dynamic concept of study ability. The study ability debate can therefore not be separated from social conceptions of order.
