Repositories - The best place for research data.

Note

We would be happy to offer the event individually for your seminar or working group. If you are interested, please contact: forschungsdaten@uni-kassel.de.

Information event on repositories for publishing and archiving research data with an introduction to DaKS, the research data repository of the University of Kassel

Repositories are the answer to two important questions about research data:

1. Where can data be published?

2. What happens to the data after the project ends?

Other forms of publication besides journal articles and books are currently rising in perception as equally high-quality research output. The publication of independent data sets brings reputation gains for the authors and allows for reuse by other researchers. Repositories provide high visibility and security of datasets.

Due to high staff turnover in scientific working groups, research in time-limited projects, and often (still) inadequate research data management, research data often run the risk of being lost. Even the working group in which the data was generated then finds it difficult to link back to its own results. Storing research data in a repository (with access restrictions) ensures that the data remains available internally. This can, but does not have to, coincide with the publication of the data.

This brief online information session will provide a broad overview of data publication in repositories in circa 20 min. The research data repository of the University of Kassel, DaKS, will be introduced. Afterwards, there will be room for questions.
