PhD Course

SolNet PhD Course

Introduction to advanced applications of solar thermal systems:
Solar heat for industrial processes, district heating and air conditioning.

The European PhD network SolNet offers another one-week PhD course.
PhD students from all over the world, working in the solar thermal field, are invited to participate in the course.
The course lectures are free of charge (=> no course fee!). The course is sponsored by the two German industry federations BdH (www.bdh-koeln.de) and BSW (www.solarwirtschaft.de).

Dates: Tuesday, Aug. 23-Saturday Aug. 27, 2011
 Location: Kassel University
Target group: PhD students in the solar thermal field

Preliminary Course Programme

Lectures on

  • Solar heat for industrial processes (about 1.5 days)
  • Solar district heating (about 0.5 day)
  • Solar air conditioning (about 1.5 days)

Presentations by representatives of the German solar industry
Presentations of PhD topics by the course participants
A one-day excursion to a zero-emission factory of solar flat plate collectors (Wagner & Co. Solartechnik)

ECTS points

The course accounts for 2 ECTS. In agreement with your home university it is possible to get more points
by increasing the workload (e.g. prepare a homework).

There is no tuition fee for the course.

We reserved rooms in an inexpensive hotel in Kassel for the course participants and we will supply you with information about it when we confirm your application.

Courses already held:

  • Dynamic System simulations using TRNSYS (22.-31.2.2007 in Borlaenge, Sweden)
  • System integration of solar thermal plants (26.3.-4.4.2007 in Graz, Austria)
