The “start page” principle

Editorial and technical information

Each self-contained web area has a top root page and thus usually refers to a "start page". There are several reasons for this:

The setting for the menu and the user authorization depends on the root area.
Many users interpret the root page in the mobile view as a heading and not as a separate page. This means that they can no longer find their way back from a subpage to the start page.

A clear and unambiguous designation that is easy for users to understand is therefore to name the page "homepage". However, this leads to a situation where the page is bookmarked as "homepage". This can be remedied with a simple trick:

Procedure

Assign a page title. If you create a start page, name the alternative navigation title "Start page". This appears in the menus and the page navigation. The alternative H1 appears on the page as the title. Here you can name the page, for example, according to your subject area.

Here you can see once in the desktop view of the page where which assigned (page) title appears.

Here you can see once in the smartphone view of the page where which assigned (page) title appears.
