Course: Micro- and Nanomechanics
Contents
The lecture discusses the mechanical behaviour of crystalline materials on a small size scale starting from dislocation mechanics. Some micromechanical measurement methods as well as the current theories on size effects in plasticity are presented.
Measurement methods:
- Microtensile tests
- Micro compression tests
- In-situ electron microscopy
- Thin film methods
Size effects:
- Strength in single crystals
- Strength in polycrystals
- Strain rate dependence
- Fracture toughness
- Fatigue
- Indentation effect
