Girls' Day 2025 at the Institute of Materials Engineering
As part of Girls' Day on April 3, 2025, the Institute of Materials Engineering - Metallic Materials opened its doors. Under the motto “On a journey of discovery into the world of metals”, the participants were treated to a varied program with exciting insights into the world of materials science.
The focus was on the basic properties of metallic materials such as conductivity, formability and density, which were vividly conveyed using interactive experiments and hands-on activities. Particular highlights were the demonstration of a shape memory alloy and an insight into the additive manufacturing of metallic components using 3D printing. Afterwards, the students were given a guided tour of the laboratories to learn about various material testing and preparation methods - including tensile tests, hardness measurement, microsection preparation and microscopy.
In addition to the practical experience, the day also provided valuable impulses for possible fields of study and careers in materials engineering and engineering sciences.
We would like to thank everyone involved for their commitment and the students for their great interest.
