Course: Materials Engineering 1
Lecturer
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Niendorf
- Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Benoit Merle
Learning objectives
- The students are able to assess which characteristic values are required to fulfill a specification and how these characteristic values are determined. They know the significance and determination of material parameters and the relationship between microstructure and properties. Students understand the role of materials in modern mechanical engineering and are able to integrate knowledge from mechanics, design and materials engineering.
Contents
- Structural composition of materials
- Important features of crystalline atomic arrangements in metallic materials
- Lattice disturbances
- Material properties under mechanical stress (tensile test, hardness test, creep test, charpy impact test, fracture toughness test, fatigue test)
- Recovery and recrystallization
Date
- On Mondays, 10-12 am, lecture hall 3, Campus Center
- On Tuesdays, 10-12 am, lecture hall 6, Arnold-Bode-Str. 12
