The two-week Summer School International Cathedra 2024 on "Challenges and Perspectives in Additive Manufacturing" took place at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (UNAL) in Bogota from 24/06 to 05/07/2024.

Over the course of two weeks, 35 curious UNAL students were introduced to the topic of additive manufacturing (AM) of metallic materials in various theoretical and practical courses. In addition to presenting the main AM processes and the properties of AM-manufactured metallic materials, the summer school also focused on current trends, challenges and the key topics of sustainability and artificial intelligence.

In addition to the Department for Cutting and Joining Manufacturing Processes (TFF) at the University of Kassel, Prof. Stefan Böhm and Florian Stredak, the Department of Metallic Materials at the Institute of Materials Engineering was also represented by Prof. Thomas Niendorf, Dr. Thomas Wegener and Dr. Julia Richter to carry out the theoretical and practical units.

We hope that the Summer School will be the beginning of a lasting and close cooperation between the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and the University of Kassel and we would like to thank the hosts for the warm and hospitable welcome and all the students for their keen interest! We hope to welcome many of you to Kassel in the future!
