Proof of language proficiency (DAAD etc.)
If you can provide proof of your language skills by means of a DAAD-recognized certificate that is not older than two years, normally no further proof of language proficiency is required.
We are happy to help!
Students / Staff members who have already taken a course here at the Language Centre of the University of Kassel can obtain a separate certificate without any additional examinations assumed the certificate is requested within two years of the end of the course.
For English, we offer appointments at regular intervals that allow students or staff members of the University of Kassel to take an exam for the purpose of obtaining a language proficiency certificate free of charge.
The procedure: On the dates offered, you take a computer-based exam. Please allow approx. 1 hour for this. Afterwards, you make an appointment to take the oral part of the exam. Once this has been completed, you will receive your language proficiency certificate.
Both the dates and registration for these exams can be found on our website at: Language Proficiency Certificate for Outgoer.
Please note that only exam dates that are offered and booked 14 days in advance are free of charge.
If you are a student of Faculty 02 (English and American Studies), the language proficiency certificate is the responsibility of your department. Please contact one of the lecturers for English in Faculty 02.
If you were brought up bilingually or have already attended school abroad, you may be exempt from the requirement to provide proof of language proficiency. Please check with the appropriate office that requires the language proficiency certificate.
If none of the examination dates is suitable for you, a separate individual appointment can be arranged in justified exceptional cases. In this case, an examination fee of 30,-€ must be paid. You will receive information regarding payment after the appointment has been arranged.
If you are interested in a separate, fee-based individual appointment, please contact:
ISZ/Language Centre
E-Mail: language[at]uni-kassel[dot]de
For all other languages, we may be able to offer individual examination appointments for a fee upon request. Please contact: sz[at]uni-kassel[dot]de
We regret that it is not possible to have your language level documented by means of a separate individual examination.
Please enrol in one of our courses to then receive documentation of your acquired level of language on successful completion of the course and the corresponding exam.
You can also obtain a UNIcert® certificate by passing a separate examination after having completed the required course components.
Please note the different course levels when enrolling.
Please ask your department's examination office exactly which certificates you need and by when! The ISZ / Language Centre cannot and is not permitted to provide you with any information on this matter.
Are certificates from the ISZ / Language Centre recognized by your department? Then please enroll in one of our courses. On passing the final course examination, you will receive a certificate of your language level. Please note the different course levels when enrolling.
As proof of your English language skills, you can also take an IELTS™ test at an external IELTS™ accredited institution on specified test dates. To register for a test date in Kassel, please contact Faculty 02, Institute for English/American Studies.
