InterESD study profile

Overuse of resources, air and water pollution, human rights violations, disenchantment with democracy, social inequality...
The list of global challenges we face as a global community goes on and on. With the aim of tackling these problems worldwide, the United Nations adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals in 2015.

Education in schools is probably the most important driver for achieving these goals. Teachers in particular are therefore called upon to show children and young people

• to show children and young people the complexity of our world, to show them how lifestyles and living conditions influence each other worldwide and, at the same time
• at the same time as encouraging and empowering them to actively promote environmentally friendly action and a just world.

With this in mind, we have developed the "Internationalization and Education for Sustainable Development (InterESD)" study profile. We would like to give you the opportunity to integrate the topics of education for sustainable development, global citizenship education and internationalization into your regular teacher training course at the University of Kassel.
As part of the study profile, you will have numerous opportunities to

• deal with problems of (non-)sustainable development,
• get to know other societies, education systems and learning cultures and
• try out how Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship Education can be integrated into school lessons

This will enable you to implement these topics later in your own lessons and become active as a multiplier within your school community.
